As we get older, we begin to notice the signs of aging on our faces and blame it as, “the inevitable”. However, these fine lines and wrinkles can be prevented, controlled, and treated by changing our everyday lifestyle. WebMD offers suggestions as to what we can do to reduce the look of aging and restore our natural beauty.

  • Avoid the Sun & Wear Sunscreen

The Sun is the number one cause of wrinkles and, besides staying indoors at all times, ones only protection is to wear sunscreen. SPF 35 is the minimum amount of protection recommended.

  • Don’t Smoke

Smoking releases enzymes that break down collagen and elastin which are both important components of the skin. Simply said – smoking ages the skin.

  • Sleep More

Lack of sleep wears on the body. When you don’t sleep, the body produces excess cortisol, a hormone that breaks down skin cells. The more sleep you get, the more HGH (human growth hormone) your body produces. HGH helps your skin remain thick, strengthen its elasticity and will less likely wrinkle.

  • Don’t Squint

Wear sunglasses if you are outdoors and a constant squinter. Repetitive facial movement strengthens your facial muscles, resulting in deeper, permanent grooves (wrinkles). Also, wearing sunglasses will protect the skin around your eyes, the thinnest, most transparent tissue on the face.

  • Eat Fruits and Vegetables

Your body produces free radical, unstable molecules that can damage cells. Antioxidant compounds found in fruits and vegetables fight free radicals, preventing skin damage.

  • Don’t Over Wash your Face and Use Moisturizer

While washing your face, use a cleanser that contains a moisturizer, no harsh soaps. Also, use a moisturizer twice a day to protect your skin. They hydrate the surface cells to help the appearance of lines and creases.

  • Eat Fish

Salmon, or any cold-water fish that contains Omega 3, an essential fatty acid, helps nourish your skin by keeping it looking youthful. It reduces wrinkles too!
